Pay Someone to Do the Homework: Most Common Cheating Practice, Survey Finding

Education is challenging; it requires constant effort to meet demands set by teachers and professors. That’s not a bad thing! High school, college, and every aspect of education aim to help you feel prepared for every obstacle that might come across after you graduate. You learn to think “outside the box,” solve problems, and succeed in both career and personal life. However, to some people, the challenging attitude of the school and constant demands can be overwhelming which is why they implement various cheating tactics to finish their assignments or pass the exam.

Why do students cheat?

Studies documenting student behavior demonstrate that a vast majority of students violate standards of academic integrity to some extent and they also show that high achievers are just as likely to do it as their colleagues. Although cheating was always present in the academic world, the problem became more prevalent over last few decades.

According to experts, it’s quite easy to explain why this happens; cheating has become easier, it doesn’t require too much effort anymore, and it has been widely tolerated. Some students cheat due to ever-increasing competitiveness at college that they struggle to keep up with; while others cheat out of pure necessity to survive and avoid failure.

The Journal of Business Ethics featured a study which showed that technology has a significant role in enabling the negative behavior. The more online tools the college students were allowed to use, the more they were likely to copy the work of others and implement different cheating tactics. The internet has changed the attitude towards cheating entirely and at this point, students are confused about what is considered cheating and plagiarism and what isn’t.

Now that different online tools are easily available with a simple Google search; students find it difficult to differentiate the fine line between what’s okay to do and what is classified as cheating. For example, a lot of students use essay writing services to pay for research paper and deliver their school projects, and they usually assume there’s nothing wrong with that. If the essay is 100% original and not plagiarized, then it cannot be cheating, right?

Believe it or not, paying someone to do the homework is categorized as one of the most widely sought after cheating strategies, according to research published in the Journal of Applied Sciences. Participants were asked to complete the questionnaire about cheating anonymously, whether they do it, why, how, and so on.

Results showed that cheating was widespread, as seen below:

  • 15.54% copied answers from others during the exam
  • 54.73% gave answers to others during the exam because they felt pressured to do so
  • 6.08% wrote answers on body parts
  • 49.32% extract hints from teachers/professors

Besides cheating strategies mentioned above, other students implement more “advanced” tactics. For example, 21.62% students pay someone to do their assignments for them. The rise of this trend is correlated with the consistent growth of online services that deliver essays or other assignments for a certain amount of money.

Why is paying for homework wrong?

Not only is paying someone to do your homework highly unethical and could pose a threat to your education, but it is also quite risky. First, when you opt to pay for your homework you’re, basically, cheating your way through the course and, eventually, academic education. You may be qualified to do something when you earn your graduation, but you’ll always know you cheated. It’s needless to mention that this action could have you penalized. Plus, do you think that your professor doesn’t know your level of knowledge and writing abilities?

The second reason why it’s wrong is that a vast amount of these websites are scams. You spend your money thinking you’ll get a high-quality work, but at the end of the day, it’s just an ordinary essay (or some other assignment) that is plagiarized at the same time. Although some of these services do deliver unique and original content, it’s difficult to find them considering how many scams are out there.

It’s also important to mention that schools and universities are starting to use different tools to detect plagiarism or any other type of malversation with the work.

Bottom line

Even though a lot of students cheated before, the problem became more severe with different internet tools. Researchers confirmed that the Internet decreased the line between the good and the bad, thus leaving students not knowing that actions they do are wrong. Paying someone to do the homework is a rising trend that is both unethical and risky at the same time.
